My Second Blog - Liz's Culinary Fun

Hmmm... I didn't know actually I like cooking!

I am opening my second blog, it will be http://lizculinaryfun.blogspot.com. There I will put all my first-time dishes and the recipes to share with my friends and family. Here is mainly for uttering my thoughts and other great life experiences. Now I am constructing my 2nd blog, guess it won't be ready that soon coz I gotta transfer the related old entries to the new blog.

As a beginner, I guess I am motivated very much after giving some tries for different types of simple but delicious dishes. I like to see my family's reaction when they are tasting my works, and also won't forget to ask them to rate them. Their suggestions are very important to me, as I can improve next time also may twist and turn a little on the recipes.

Although I am just a novice, I do anticipate that I will continue to cook more, "practice makes perfection", right?! I still remember my mom kept complaining that I didn't help her out in the kitchen (I ended up dunno how to cook in my 20s), and my brother laughed at me when I wanted to cook a nice poached egg but turned out to be a "scrambled" style...

Daniel is very particular on our daily intake of food, he is watching 'our' healths now (I'm a big-everything-eater, don't really care so much when the delicious foods are waving at me, so he has to watch my eating behaviour too) and he dislikes restaurant and packed foods. No doubt they taste good, but they contain lots of MSG, chemical ingredients and preservatives. Unless we are invited, otherwise we don't eat out. That's why I have to learn how to cook healthily, and save more money.

There is a Chinese saying "要绑住男人的心,先绑住男人的胃" it means "To conquer your man's heart, you have to conquer his stomach first" Well, it is true, no?

Women's Day

8th of March, is the International Women's Day.

This year, it's also our Malaysian's big day - Election Day! I've checked online, confirmed that I am registered in their database and eligible to vote. But... I need to travel 700km to the Embassy in Bucharest to vote!! My gosh, it's too far away, and I don't even know which party I should vote for. I have no interest in politic stuff at all... *blushed* Have to wait for another 4 years.

Poor me, caught a cold this morning and now I am still not feeling well.

Anyway, wishing all the women~

Video Dedication To The Smokers

Attention to all the smokers, are you gonna stop smoking after watching this?

This is the process of extracting 7200 mgr Tar from 400 cigarettes. Of course, unlike this experiment, smokers exhale when they smoke. They do not retain all of the tar and they don't really smoke 400 cigarettes non-stop. But many years down the road, it's still very bad for the health.... ew!

Pass this on if you care for the ones you love.

He Is Talented, Isn't He?

Like sister like brother! This is my younger brother Ken, who loves to play and sing.

If you like this, please vote him at http://www.myvote.com.my/category/productdetails.aspx?id=53 (via Malaysian sms only)

After so many times participating in Malaysia's talent search and other big and small singing competitions, though he does not win any award so far, but I can tell he is improving well!

Ken, I hope one day you will become who you want to be, and do what you crave to do. You have lots of potential, you see? If you have it, flaunt it; if you don't use it, you lose it. If one day you will be stepping on the stage and perform, don't forget to get me some free VVIP tickets ya!

My dear bro, keep it up!

没有风,我也会感到风吹;没有雨,我也会感到雨淋;没有地震,我也会感到山摇地动;

Martisor - "Dear March"

Mărţişor is the traditional celebration of the beginning of the spring in Romania on 1 March. The day's name is the diminutive of March (in Romanian Martie), and thus means something like "little" or "dear March". Nowadays, men offer women a talisman object also called Mărţişor, consisting of a jewel or a small decoration like a flower, an animal or a heart, tied to a red and white string. However, giving a little nickel tied to a red and white string is an old custom and was originally designated for both men and women. It was believed that the one who wears the red and white string will be powerful and healthy for the year to come. The decoration is a symbol of the coming spring. A woman wears it pinned to her blouse on this day and up to two weeks after. Occasionally, women also give such gifts to men. In some parts of Romania such as Moldova or Bukovina the symbol of spring was a gold or silver medal which was worn around the neck. After wearing the coin for twelve days, they bought sweet cheese with the medal, because it was believed that their faces would remain beautiful and white the entire year.

Its beginnings are still a mystery, but it is usually said that it originated in ancient Dacia (the early Romania), because New Year's Eve was celebrated on the 1st of March (Martius), the month of the war god Mars. He had a double role: both protector of agriculture and of war, so the celebration signified the rebirth of nature. The duality of symbols is kept in the colours of the Mărţişor: red and white, meaning love and divinity (it might also symbolise spring and winter).

The Mărţişor celebration started today. Yesterday, Daniel brought me to the city centre to buy some Mărţişor for the special females... (me and the mom, who else?) It was a very beautiful day, very sunny outside, chilly wind... Yeah the spring is coming, yay! In a beautiful mood, I prepared the food before we headed out.

First time, I prepared the Thai Fried Rice. Yum yum! You may be wondering why there is a pair of chopsticks on the table... well, ask my hubby.

We reached the city centre, and parked our car nearby a park. Walking hand in hand, we passed through a big statue, in remembrance of the heroes who died when fighting for the country.

I liked the atmosphere, it was like a fiesta!

Crowded street in the city centre, stalls were open selling wide variety of Mărţişor. There were modern brooches, traditional brooches, rings, necklaces, cards, room ornaments, strings and so on. Many of the sellers were the art club student from the universities, I was impressed by their hand-made products, they were very pretty!

We stopped by the florist's, attracted by the colourful and beautiful flowers I took some pictures. Then, Daniel bought me a tulip from them, aw... so sweet of him, isn't he?

Heading towards the end of the street.

This is the tulip and the Mărţişor I got from Daniel.

Me wearing the wonderful Mărţişor!
